Privacy Statement

General provisions
www.KoreaBrand.net (hereafter “Korea Brand Web”), operated by the Presidential Council on Nation Branding (hereafter “PCNB”), is committed to protecting its members’ information proactively, and has established the privacy statement as described below, with which it complies stringently. Korea Brand Web uses the member’s personal information to facilitate the use of an optimal service only, and shall not provide it to any third party without the consent of the member, and shall exert its best efforts to protect the member from damages occasioned by information leakage.

The personal information policy of Korea Brand Web is subject to change according to the relevant laws and regulations, guidelines, or internal operation policies. If any modification is made to the method of handling the members’ personal information, Korea Brand Web will notify its members of the change in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations and the service terms of use.

1. Purpose of Collecting and Using Personal Information
Korea Brand Web collects the personal information of its members and uses it in order to provide an optimal service to its members via the website operated by the PCNB.
Korea Brand Web will provide more useful information to its members based on the personal information submitted by them. In addition, Korea Brand Web requests the submission of personal information to enable it to provide effective answers to members’ questions.

2. Items and Methods of Collecting Personal Information
The PCNB collects the minimum amount of personal information required to conclude and implement the service agreement by using only lawful and fair means. When the PCNB collects the personally identifiable information of its members, it collects and retains that personal information only in accordance with the regulations of the law and the user’s consent.
The following personal information is required for collection by the PCNB:

  1. 1) Required items: ID (e-mail address), password, name, age, and gender
  2. 2) Optional item: Log information generated by the log analysis system

The PCNB shall retain the following personal information by agreement with the members.

  1. - Personal information file name: Member of the PCNB’s homepage
  2. - Retained by: Online Contents Team, the PCNB
  3. - Grounds for retention: Terms of use
  4. - Purpose of retention: Member management and e-mailing service
  5. - Major items: E-mail address, name, nationality, date of birth, gender, and personal ID and password
  6. - Retention period: To be immediately removed upon the member’s withdrawal from the service

* Any additional information collected from Korea Brand Web online events will be used, subject to agreement by the members or modification of the related section of the Terms of Use.

The PCNB shall not collect any personal information containing details that might violate the basic human rights of the member, except with the member’s consent and in accordance with the regulations of the law.

3. Providing and Sharing of Personal Information
The PCNB shall not provide the information submitted by the member to any third party without the member’s prior consent or use it for any other purposes.
The PCNB shall obtain the consent of the member regarding the following items, and the member shall have the right to refuse or withdraw from them.

- Identity of the privacy protection manager (pertinent organization, name, and phone number)
- Purpose of collecting and using the personal information
- Personal information item to be collected
- Period of retention and use of the personal information
- Issues related to personal information provision to a third party
- Withdrawal from membership, the member’s right to retrieve his/her own information and request its correction, and method of making a request
- Other items stipulated by the relevant laws and regulation, such as the Information and Communication Network Use Promotion Law

The right to access the member’s personal information is restricted to the relevant staff. However, the PCNB may use the personal information or provide it to a third party that is not included in the prior notice or exceeds or the specified scope without the member’s consent in the following exceptional cases.

- If the personal information is needed for statistics, academic study, or market research, and is provided in a format that does not allow identification of a specific individual;
- If the member has applied for a service, and the personal information needs to be provided to the company associated with the PCNB in order to complete the transaction and implement a service use agreement that requires the minimum user information (name, e-mail, address, etc.).

A third party may collect the personal information that was voluntarily submitted online by the member, which is the sole responsibility of the member.

4. Members’ Rights Concerning Their Personal Information
The PCNB respects the member’s right to own his/her personal information to the maximum extent.
If the member wishes to retrieve or correct his/her personal information, the member should use the personal information management menu on the Customer Center page in the PCNB homepage to retrieve, check, and correct personal information while logged in, using the registered ID and password.

5. Retention and Usage Period of Personal Information
The personal information submitted by the member will be used for service provision from the date of his/her joining the membership to the date of his/her withdrawal from the membership. If the member withdraws from membership or is expelled, his/her personal information will be destroyed immediately.
However, even if the member terminates the terms of use and withdraws from the membership, his/her personal information will be retained for a certain period of time in order to cope with a lawsuit or controversy should either arise. At this time, retrieval and use of the retained personal information shall be limited to the specified reason only.

6. Technical Measures for Privacy Protection
The PCNB shall do its best to devise adequate technical management measures to protect against leakage of the member’s personal information. The PCNB does its best to secure stability in handling the member’s personal information, in order to ensure that it is not lost, stolen, disclosed, altered, or damaged. To that end, the PCNB devises technical measures such as a supplementary device that uses the password, a security device that can send personal information safely on the network using an encryption algorithm, an access control device that uses an intrusion blocking system, and other technical devices needed to secure availability. The PCNB restricts to the minimum possible the number of staff members who can access the member’s personal information, and provides continuous training to ensure conformance to this policy and other privacy protection efforts. In addition, every effort is made to prevent illegal information leakages by regularly updating the administrator’s password, which is used to access personal information.

7. Items Related to Cookie Operation
The PCNB uses cookies partially in order to provide a better service by remembering the member when the member visits the site again.
A cookie is a small amount of the information sent by the website server of the service provider to the user’s computer, which contains information on the visited website and the user’s personal information. Cookies identify the user’s computer browser but do not identify the user individually. Users can have cookie-handling options by setting the web browser option – accepting all cookies, notifying the user when the cookie is installed, or rejecting all cookies. Specific personal information collected by the PCNB when users visit Korea Brand Web will not be disclosed to the outside, unless it is processed via a legal procedure in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations.

8. Member’s Complaints with Regard to the Privacy Statement
The PCNB promptly handles member’s complaints about privacy protection. If a member thinks that the PCNB has not implemented the privacy statement properly, the member can contact the privacy protection manager at any time. The PCNB shall resolve the issue as quickly as possible, if a correction should be made.

10. Effective Date and Update of the Policy
The privacy statement may be changed or amended in order to provide a better service to members or as a result of a government agency’s instruction or changes in the relevant laws and regulations. It can take seven days or longer to notify members of such a change.
